What to expect at NRCA Summer Camp?
Schedule
We will follow the same schedule throughout the summer as we follow throughout the school year. This will prepare new students for the school year and provide a familiar routine for current NRCA students.
Curriculum
NRCA is proud to offer our students a rigorous education through a Biblical worldview with our Abeka curriculum and our special summer theme based on Camille Saint-Saiens "Carnival of the Animals" classical collection. Summer Camp students will receive a great introduction and/or review of learning material through Abeka as well.
Summer Curriculum
- The summer theme is based on Camille Saint-Saiens "Carnival of the Animals" classical collection. Each movement represents an animal.
- Science will be learning about each animal as it is presented with the corresponding movement (nature study).
- Students will learn about the composer (composer study). And we will briefly look at and talk about the different instruments used in the pieces. Students will learn to identify them when they hear them.
- Students will learn some French since our composer is French. Specifically, numbers and letters.
- Students will continue to focus on Abeka phonics and numbers. In addition to our numbers, We will add in daily graphing so that becomes a familiar and comfortable concept to students. It will be a simple activity: put a happy face/sad face or yes/no card under their ice cream flavor choice.
- Students will enjoy some classical children's literature that will be read aloud to them every day so they can practice masterly inactivity being still, listening, and thinking.
- Students will learn Bible verses and a few songs. They will play animal games.
- Students will also participate in a small garden.
- Students will enjoy a water day(s) each week: Tuesdays and Fridays
- Students will also have a daily craft focused on the animal of the week.
Faculty and Staff
Throughout the school year, we strive to maintain a low teacher-to-student ratio in order to provide the best possible education and learning environment for our students. This will remain our standard during our Summer Camp program.
